Choosing a Cheer Camp Check List

CHECK THE PRICE:

Costs do vary greatly, but getting the most for your money is the most important aspect.

Look at what the camp has to offer before you decide which one has the “BEST” price!

CHECK WHAT IS OFFERED:

1. Does the camp’s philosophy of cheerleading match that of my team/school?
2. Will I be able to use all of the material, music and moves in my school?
3. Do they provide instructional opportunities based on the team’s ability level? Example: Younger, less experienced teams learn simpler material and older, more experienced learn move advanced. Jump class and stunt class divided by ability level, all with the goal of bringing your team to the next level!
4. Do I have options for my team in special classes that we may need to work on or advance to?
5. How young can participants be? Will all age and ability levels benefit?
6. If I bring two or more teams from my school will they be able to learn different material?

The reason to choose CCA camps is because of the excellent instruction in cheerleading not only with a Christian emphasis but rather because every instructor shows Christ in everything they do and say when working with the teams. They are genuine. CCA provides excellence in cheerleading and in living Jesus at every moment before the cheerleaders.

1. WORK OUT vigorously including flexibility, strength training, aerobic exercises. This will Be sure that are in shape for the strenuous week and seasons ahead. Do this at practice as well as have a routine and commitment sheet to take home, including a parent’s verification that all exercises were completed in the non-practice times. CONDITION their bodies. Have them stretching already so when they get to camp their bodies are not stiff (Basketball season ended in Feb!).

2. REVIEW your progressions from the lowest to highest. Focus on simple techniques needed for all skills. If there is a basic technique you are unsure of write it down and ask an instructor at camp.

3. PRAY for the new squad. All those personalities coming together working as a team is one of your biggest challenges. Have sleep overs and other activities to start the bonding process.

4. PREPARE them mentally for the experience. Have the seasoned cheerleaders inform the new ones about the details of the camp experience. Be sure that they do it realistically but positively. Let them know that they will have to cope with the mental strain learning all the new material. The physical and mental strain will test relationships, so they need to learn to get along in difficult times. Teach them be aware of their surroundings.

5. ASSIGN each girl the job of learning one cheer/sideline perfectly. They should ALL learn ALL of the material taught however if you assign a specific girl a specific one to learn PERFECTLY in case others forget, it helps to lighten the load for all and insures that you get everything you need. It will be their responsibility to know their assigned material in such a way that they can teach it to everyone else who may have forgotten parts of it when they get back home!

Getting ready for camp: The girls begin working out immediately after tryouts and work on conditioning and strength training and prepare at least one cheer before going to camp. Also, stunt groups are worked on for extensions, baskets, libertys, etc. We create their chant line and divide them into groups for learning cheers at camp. We also work on squad goals and individual goals for the summer, camp, football season, basketball season and nationals.
